ugh. that hand in the foreground is a crime against anatomy. seriously. they just don't work that way. i just tried to twist my wrist like that and it almost ended in  compound fractures.

also, have you noticed that there just aren't enough hours in the day?

Tuesday 28 April 2009

whoop-di-do basil, more rough stuff, this time for that infernall little experiment with the rubber stamps. that sketch of the type writter is the laziest observation ever.

working on something big at the moment. i've had some stand up playing in the background to help keep me going and OH MY GOD, did eddie murphy use to be HILARIOUS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnrno8agddQ&NR=1

ohhhhh man, what happened?

and now, to colouring!

Monday 27 April 2009

rough work for the invite. hmm, perhaps that cut out look i wanted to incorporate into it would have worked better with the simpler aesthetics of the gloves and cards.

OH WELL.

recently went to an interview at edinburgh (which explains the lack of activity round here) but i'm not going to be holding my breath about getting a place. they were SUPER over subscribed this year and nothing makes me channel my inner moron more than interviews.

again, OH WELL.

did you know that harry houdini's brother was also a famous stage magician? theodore hardeen went on to set up the magician's guild after harry's death and it was infact he who came up with the iconic straight-jacket escape trick.

#THE MORE YOU KNOW#

Monday 20 April 2009

this stuff's as old as methusela but it's practically the only thing left over from my foundation that's halfway decent enough to go in the portfolio. t'is part of the out come from a camberwell project which had us observing a space for a week.

take a wild guess where i went.

sssssooo tired. got a tone of stuff i need to get done by 4 though thanks to spilling black ink every where. god, that stuff's really indelible.

uuuugh.

Sunday 19 April 2009

ugh, haven't had a chance to update this over the last week or so. going for my first choice university interview in one and a bits and as such am desperately  trying to get the last few things together.

i'm not freaking out, not even a little bit. i'm as sure of that as my name is grigori rasputin.

anyhoo, remnants from the sketch jam. the topic for this one was anticipated films of 2009. went with '9' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWSK0g1BnsY) because animation and post apocalypse scenarios  are two things i have a big o'l cushy soft spot for.

and, of course, it looks totally bad ass.

Tuesday 14 April 2009

huh, so apparantly backgrounds don't need to abide to the laws of perspective. or maybe the big reveal was just so big that reality itself last its shit for a moment there. anyhoo, cleaning up all those scummy pencil marks is so much easier when you start playing with the levels in photoshop.
that program is a life saver

the bitter aftermath of all that playing with little rubber stamps.

this was ment to be some ironic little image playing on the idea of writter's block but i'm not sure if it was worth the time (and sanity) that went into it. still, it's always fun to try something new, right?

roll on RSI!

Saturday 11 April 2009

ugh. those little tweesers and itty-bitty wee rubber letter stamps are the devil's play things. there's a reason why we draw with lines and not letters.

wow, my thumb is fat.

relics from camberwell. part of a zine i put together based on the rather unsettling satistic that londoner's are never no less than 3 meters away from a rat. it was basically a bunch of photo's of a rather raggedy wire/gumstrip modle of a rat in a array of locations.

deep man. deep.

we had like one day to put it all together which was FUN.

(just a reminder of the pencils before you obliterate them with the oils.)

invite design. no contact information for you though, internet, hence the big, blank  V O I D  at the bottom. Was trying to go for that super clean, shapely cut out look which is the total antithesis of my messy ass.

...

out of context, that last part sounds pretty nasty.

ALL TOGETHER NOW!

final image for the freelance job and WOW, when they're all in one place you can really see all the inconsistencies. the inking and lighting are particularly funky. also, this drawing's getting pasted into a predrawn backdrop. of a space station bridge.

SINCE WHEN DID SPACE SHIPS HAVE WIND MACHINES!?

huh, maybe the constantly billowing hair and capes come as standard with all the other sparkly jedi powers.

just a little snippet from what's being worked on at the moment.

huh, so is making his facial features disappear part of the act or did the artist just get lazy?

Tuesday 7 April 2009

'nother panel from the web comic featuring a mob of angry villagers doing what angry villagers do best.

Friday 3 April 2009

do over of the do over of a do over.

wait, what?

back at camberwell they gave us a project which was to make a guide to *insert topic here*. i want to stick it in my portfolio but the art work is total ass so i'm going to redo the images for a couple of pages and be all like 'compare and contrast, bitches.

...

no, this really isn't me trying to pad out my portfolio with as much filler content as possible. nor is this just an excuse to draw lots of robots and try to rip off ashley wood's super sexy style. honest.

of course, this could just be a very elaborate visual charade (book, six words).

left overs from the sketch jam. can't remember what the topic was, but y the last man must have been a viable option. good god, that series was dynamite.

Thursday 2 April 2009

panel from the web comic.

villagers potentially armed with pitch forks and flaming faggots? why do i get the distinct feeling this isn't going to end too well for our cloaked stranger?

warning: this panel contains gratuitous amounts of abject horror.

left overs from a draft of a drawing that got aborted halfway through.

 i have commitment issues.
