aaaaaaand that's that for the coffee cups. eugh, if somebody acctually knew how to use photo shop, i would have done something about the vpl (er, that's visible paper line) blighting this, uh, series with it's ta-ta-tattyness.

another part of the cup series.
i really don't know what the hell i had against starbucks back last year when i got the idea for this... in fact, i don't think there were any bad feelings at all.
... i think it was all just an excuse to draw kelptomanic mermaids. in hind-sight, the flow of that tentecal sucks balls. needs to be waaaay more fluid.... although acctually i think it might work with the gaps between the line up of cups.
OH WELL.
did you know that starbucks is named after the first mate in moby dick? initially, the company wanted to go with pequod, abham's doomed ship, but pr didn't warm to that idea.
#THE MORE YOU KNOW#
also, may i recomend you all go out and watch simon schama's bbc series 'power of art'. i've pretty much blew through 5 out of 8 hours of it yesterday while i was working and it is GOOD stuff. ok, so the guy may be a little forthright with his intentions but it's a really interesting examination of the selected artists and the production on it is BEAUTIFUL.

this stuff's as old as methusela but it's practically the only thing left over from my foundation that's halfway decent enough to go in the portfolio. t'is part of the out come from a camberwell project which had us observing a space for a week.

take a wild guess where i went.

sssssooo tired. got a tone of stuff i need to get done by 4 though thanks to spilling black ink every where. god, that stuff's really indelible.

uuuugh.

relics from camberwell. part of a zine i put together based on the rather unsettling satistic that londoner's are never no less than 3 meters away from a rat. it was basically a bunch of photo's of a rather raggedy wire/gumstrip modle of a rat in a array of locations.

deep man. deep.

we had like one day to put it all together which was FUN.

photos of orestes mark 2.  many brave inches^3 of super sculpy gave their lives in the struggle to realize orestes mark 1 which eventually imploded under the weight of ill planning. *sniff* your noble sacrifice will not be forgotten.

oh my god i'm so sleep deprived and there's so much work i need to do.

i wonder if that has anything to do with the nonsensical nature of this post...

de ja vu? yeah, i know. we've all seen this already but i had to take some ACCTUALLY half decent photographs for my portfolio. fun times.

still not illustration though.

and there's the finished model. cardboard man was made as part of my shiny new portfolio... until i realized that he's got very little to do with ILLUSTRATION.

*slow clap*

some more old school foundation stuff. they were all like 'WORK BIG, PANSIES!' so i decided to sock it to them with a drippy life sized drawing compleat with a crappy 3d hand (i'm sure there ws some deep, phiosophical reason for it at the time). since then, this monstrosity has been radically cropped, de-handed (thank god) and now spends its day brooding in the kitchen corner.

just some prep work for the GIANT (okay, it's only just a tad over half a meter but what can i say, clearly i'm easily impressed by my own handiwork. sometimes. when i'm not being crushed into the ground by my own towering sense of artistic inadequacy.) cardboard man now looming over all the junk cluttering my work space.

uh... wtf did all the male genitalia go?

oh, silly naive alex. the net idea was never going to work.

don't balance fragile models on high ledges. bad things will happen.
