right now we're trying to juggle four projects that need to be in by the end of january.HOLY SHIT IT'S FLYING BY THE SEAT OF YOUR PANTS TIME. one thing i need to do is put together an artist's book about the area i live in. i think i got waaaay too carried away by the prospect of doing out and about sketching though; turns out your BRILLIANT plan of just drawing a load of random shit and hoping that it would slot perfectly together with the help of a little photoshop it a load of old hooey. aw yeah.

i think this video perfectly encapsulates my fantastically methodical approach:

and some random sketch book stuff.

so yeah. we're currently in the middle of trying to organise a wee fund raising event to save the rec centerohwaitimean to put towards our degree show. if you'd like to come along to buy some sweet arts and crafts, that would be the greatest. there might also be cake.

one thing there most defiantly will be will be a run of calendars put together by some of the fine folk in our year.

here's my paltry offering for november. i saw such things for this but i seem to be in the midsts of the most glorious self-loathing art funk. blllllllaaaaaarrrrrgh!

on the subject of november, i do believe it's that time of year that the men folk do their best to grow some illustrious upper lip hair. may all your moustaches be long and prosperous!

self initiated pages.

ugh. now it's all said and done, totally not happy with how i went about this. as tutor man said, i was waaaaaaaay too focused on trying to cover as much ground as humanly possible instead of aiming for a smaller target and making something that was far, far tighter.

frustration.

i don't know, if there's a chance this summer, i'd really like to take another crack at this, but treat it a bit more like a picture book. eric's writing is totally shwaay anyway and doesn't need to be rail-roaded by mediochar art AND OH MY, ARNE'T WE BEING QUITE THE LITTLE SELF PITYING ARTIST TODAY.

in other news, they are letting us draw ALL OVER our campus as part of the little send off party. i am alex's overwhelming, quivering excitement.

finals for the stamp project. american's came up with some of the most amazing nick names for their heads of state. also, the internet is an AMAZING source for fonts. been raiding that thing like a GODDAMN VIKING.

oh god. these things are going to be waaaaay too tiny irl for you to be able to see jack or squat. time to fudge the dimensions in photoshop methinks...

MY GOD. CAN WE DO ONE PROJECT WITHOUT CHEATING HORRIBLY PLEASE?!?

Sunday, 17 April 2011

at the mid year crit, our tutor gave each of us personal project. i'm supposed to have spent the last 4 months designing a set of stamps based on american presidents....
....
..
WHOOPS-A-DOODLE!
yeah, i totally can't multi task projects and the list of to-do has hit bloated, gargantuous proportions so i have devoted all of ONE WHOLE DAY to it. bravo, champ, bravo.

initial pencils. ah well, at least it's done. if you can get another macmillan page coloured before the day's out, i'll give you a high-five to self.

the for final pages for the macmillan project... god damn. bitch and moan as i do about never wanting to draw another building EVER AGAIN, i totally miss working on this. defiantly going to try and get the whole thing done at some point:

ugh. this was the last page drawn and boy, dose it show. composition and colour go to shit once we cross the gutter. maybe pick a more harmonious back ground colour and not that gross neon-cream? also, that last drawing maybe needs to be a wee bit smaller... and not total ass.

don't mind me, just talking to myself.

things to take away to the crit:
∞ STOP KILLING THINGS WHEN THEY BECOME FINALS. loose + sketchy= iiittttt'sss aaaaalllliiiivvveeeeee!
∞ digital colouring dose not help. it's cool because now i've got a colour reference to work from but yeah...
∞ so try water colouring it. scoring some big-ass water colour paper and putting it through the laser printer is pretty high on the list of to-do.

MMM! I AM ALL KINDS OF EXCITED TO DO THIS THING!

dear sepia,

i am so sorry for employing you in a cheap attempt to give these some sense of being set in the 40s.

one of the many pearls of wisdom imparted in the crit for this was that i really didn't get the flavour of the period down. this is not post war britain.

BITCH BITCH BITCH, MOAN MOAN MOAN.

just a quick experiment with colour in the key of oz. i don't know... i think i have a tendency to rely waaaaaaaaay too heavily on my line work or rather, it's too heavy.

of course, the obvious thing to do is to take it out of the equation all together. HALF-MEASURES ARE FOR HALF-ASSERS, YO.

jesus. that girl is way too white to be out in the sun.

AAAAAAAAAAAAND DONE. WOW. I TOTALLY DID NOT HAVE THE TIME I SPENT ON THIS. PEOPLE FROM THE HOUR LENDERS ARE GOING TO BE COMING ROUND TO BREAK MY THUMBS ANY MINUET NOW LOL LOL LOL.

hooray for self indulgence!

... listening to 'the suburbs' and, correct me if i'm wrong, but i think arcade fire just brought the disco and OH MY GOD. THEY JUST BROKE OUT THE SYNTH-SYNTH-SYNTH SYNTHISISER.

p.s. we are off to see scott pilgrim in 2 hours. i know it's disgustingly keen (shut up america, it only just came out here today) this excitement cannot be contained.

shame on me. i wasted a good chunk of this afternoon tarting things up in my sketchbook instead of tackling the mountain of uni/work work i absolutely had to get done five minuets ago. a-booooooooooooooooooooooo.

more new york stuff. god, watching that man do 5,000 pull ups while i sat there eating my body weight in orgasmically lush french toast was depressing.

huzzah for crime fighting golf carts!

life drawings. our totally wonderful life drawing teacher (http://www.aldouseveleigh.com/) has been telling us to pin up our life drawings for yonks. i'd failed miserably at getting round to this herculanian task so decided to throw 'em up on the blog and god damn it, he was right. just briefly looking at them in photoshop has given me a couple of ideas for what to try in the next session.

shame i only did it four lessons before the end of the academic year. bravo alex, bravo.
