some things that are currently cooking for the summer project. this might be starting to turn into a desperate scrabble for the finish line.

aaaaaaaaaaand here's an episode of aisha tyler's hi-larious podcast. although actually in this one they get all crazy philosophical on how to feel/deal with having careers in the creative/entertainment industries. it put me in a fantastic mood.

hoy hoy!

FINALLY made a start on the actual pages of the liberty. caloo-callay! it's a little slow going though since i've found that when i go from thumbnails to laying out the actual pages, i've totally been on the track to doing the one thing that all my tutors have been tut-tutting at (which is being SUPER WANKY and coming up with images that say 'LOOK AT ME- I CAN DRAW' rather than tell a story WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART). also, keep on finding that there so aren't enough hours in the day. DRAW FASTER YOU SLOW POKE.

ah well. i need to check what i can post up here in regards to that. in the mean time, here's a snippet of a wip. good lord, this image is going to get the photoshopped to kingdom-come once it's all said and done (ooh! bust d'em rhymes!).

YOU LIE!

unless... of course, it was just the pencils on the figures you were talking about getting done by the end of the weekend? eh? EHH?

soooooooo very tempted to scrap this piece and start again... eh, we'll see how it looks when it's done, JUST FOR ADDED SELF-FLAGULATION.

right. imma going to watch some season2 lost because i'm that far behind the curve.

pencils for another piece for the song theme over at the doodle caboodle. ugh, there are some really rough lines for something else lurking in my moleskin and another idea that is just going to outright haunt me unless i do it right now.

oh dear. we seem to have opened the flood gates.

in the meantime though, watch this space because imma going to paint the shit out of this!

edit- OH CHRIST! just noticed the massive proportion fail on this. lady has gigantism. ooh-err.

4/5

HOT DOG. the style on these guys is so very painfully inconsistent. should have manned the fuck up and churned the lot of them out in one glorious burst of activity.

(also, you probably shouldn't have drawn something that's going to be reduced down to the size of a ticket on SHITLY CUSTOMIZED a2 paper).

oh well. win some, loose some, right?

lo! hilariously inaccurate reproductions of famous moscownian landmarks!

pencils for the super massive russia drawing. hopfully going to get the majority of the colours done this afternoon.

perspective's so much more fun when you just throw it out the window.

current theme for the doodle caboodle is fantastic machines. gah, haven't had much time to spare so i took forever to actually get around to doing anything for it... and in the end, all i've got to show for myself is a poor man's rocketeer...

OH WELL, WHAT THE HELL.

going to slap so colours on this sometime soon so watch this space. got five million other things i want to do for this and all the other topics but goddamn, there are never going to be enough hours in the day.

the naked pages for the comic book project. currently slapping a dash of colour on them but i'm not super optimistic as to how it's all going to turn out. gah, i really, REALLY wish i'd taken this as a chances to be more experimental in terms of style (after the memory project, i was super psyched about maybe getting to mix the inks up with some acrylics but... i don't know, i guess i pussied out and told myself this story wouldn't suit that) BUT OH WELL.

MY MY MY. ME THINK SOMEONE'S BEING A BIT OF A NEGATIVE NANCY TODAY.

pencils for the bits of the final part of the editorial project. they gave us an article about this guy's love affair with new york and it's doing eeeeeeeeeeveryone's head in.

needed to throw these up as a reference because i'm to damn lazy to flip back and forth between pages.

half baked... but i kinda like it as it is... like 'whoa... intense back lighting'.

wow. there's some deep art analysis for your ass.

there IS a background coming but it's pretty lazy. also, whenever you copy an individual layer out out of open canvas into photoshop, something in this machine's inner working's is convinced that everything would look so much better with jaggy edges. awesome.

anyhoo, just something for my dad. hooray for nepotism.

ugh. those little tweesers and itty-bitty wee rubber letter stamps are the devil's play things. there's a reason why we draw with lines and not letters.

wow, my thumb is fat.

(just a reminder of the pencils before you obliterate them with the oils.)

just a little snippet from what's being worked on at the moment.

huh, so is making his facial features disappear part of the act or did the artist just get lazy?

left overs from a draft of a drawing that got aborted halfway through.

 i have commitment issues.

1/3

somewhere in the transition from pencils to colors, this guy's scowl-y scowl got a little lack luster. also, i'm loving the wind defying hair.

and yes. i am being paid to draw jedi. i have entered into a glorious state of nerd-vana.
...
is jedi one of those words like sheep that's the same in singular and plural?

pencils for freelance job.

list of to do:

+ convince client you can draw something that looks as though it actually has two x chromosomes.

+ redesign the she-males' armor.

+ FINISH IT ALREADY! christ, a demotivated, three toed sloth could probably color faster than you can.

work in progress- pencils from the last page of the web comic i'm doing with Q. i like the first two thirds of this. you were doing so well... and then you've got that last panel with the hood charging the guy from COMPLETELY the WRONG ANGLE.

*slow clap*

in other news, i really, REALLY like drawing feet. i'm wondering if it's some kind of subconscious fetish...

Thursday, 29 January 2009

work in progess- concept art for the locklear film. not really used to working with such an emphasis on... graphic design for lack of a better word. also, those planes don't really sit too comfortably with the backdrop.  possibly break them down into more basic shapes? bah, i don't know, i'm just thinking aloud.

boss man wants to try and throw some text in there and create a greater sense of speed in the foreground.

speed lines= speed?

work in progress.

i just kinda like where it's at for the time being. don't worry though, that's probably going to change quite shortly :D

for some reason, working out where to place him on the page and what size to make him has been the hardest thing about this.
NEWSFLASH- my computer just ate this and the +1 hours worth of work i'd put into it and guess who didn't press Ctrl + s at any point?
well done alex, you win AAAAAALLLLLL the points.
