3/3 for the freelance job

the other leg? pah, what other leg!?!

wah, totally should have done the inking all at once instead of in separate files. this is way more heavy handed than the other two.

life drawing. now with added novelty value.

Wednesday, 25 March 2009

2/3 for the freelance job.

actually, i've pretty much wrapped this up. all i need to do is muster the will power to re draw the tips of two light sabers and a corner of a cape but for some reason that seems to be neigh on impossible.

PUSSY. YOU CAN SLEEP WHEN YOU'RE DEAD!

Tuesday, 24 March 2009

oh look. more life drawing.

how exciting.

but srsly folks, theater people make the most fantastic models.

for the sketch jam. this week's theme was the rather open ended 'something awesome' and what could possibly be more awesome than the cy-bear ninja squad?

yeah. bear stealth. i see that working.

Monday, 23 March 2009

mmm, slightly less scrappy than the last version, no?

boss man had a meeting with the warwick castle people and they seem to want to use this which is very, VERY exciting. there are a couple of things that need tweaking (shockingly shite castle, i'm looking at you) and obviously there's going to be some more text but who knows, you might see this floating round london come autumn.

wow, does the border make anyone else think national geographic?

do over for the freelance job.

Saturday, 21 March 2009

life drawing.

uuuugh, out of practice. last couple of times i've been, i've mostly been working in the moleskin or on the lap top so going back to A1 was a bit of a system shock (clearly).

also, for the love of god can we PLEASE try and draw some women that don't look like dudes with boobs. i know leonardo did it and was a genious and all, but i don't see you painting the sistine chapel any time soon.

shipping slide 3/3

organic painting, because my eyeballs were going to actually boil in their sockets if i looked at the monitor for even one more second and cleaning all that eyeball goop out of the keyboard would be a total bitch.

seriously though, i'm concerned with the amount of art i'm doing on the computer. i miss tangible produce.

second slide for the talk. because shading makes everything better.

slide illustration. now with 20% more luster.

(nonsense derived from a super awesome podcast called let's do this. do yourself a favor and check it out.)

photos of orestes mark 2.  many brave inches^3 of super sculpy gave their lives in the struggle to realize orestes mark 1 which eventually imploded under the weight of ill planning. *sniff* your noble sacrifice will not be forgotten.

oh my god i'm so sleep deprived and there's so much work i need to do.

i wonder if that has anything to do with the nonsensical nature of this post...

Monday, 16 March 2009

de ja vu? yeah, i know. we've all seen this already but i had to take some ACCTUALLY half decent photographs for my portfolio. fun times.

still not illustration though.

DAMNIT WOMAN, WHERE'S YOU'R PASSION!? seriously, did you just port these off clip art?

two wonderfully dynamic illustrations for some slides for a talk on shipping law.

life drawing... now with added background! sure, having naked people seemingly floating in a white void is fun and all, but context is good.

that guy totally clocked me drawing him.

he didn't appreciate it.

did something about the appalling lack of emotion going in in this guys face but it turns out that version of the drawing's getting scrapped anyways since the angle didn't match up with that of the pre-selected back ground.

damn.

that said though, i'm working on the new pencils and it's looking way better this time round.

1/3

somewhere in the transition from pencils to colors, this guy's scowl-y scowl got a little lack luster. also, i'm loving the wind defying hair.

and yes. i am being paid to draw jedi. i have entered into a glorious state of nerd-vana.
...
is jedi one of those words like sheep that's the same in singular and plural?

pencils for freelance job.

list of to do:

+ convince client you can draw something that looks as though it actually has two x chromosomes.

+ redesign the she-males' armor.

+ FINISH IT ALREADY! christ, a demotivated, three toed sloth could probably color faster than you can.

a beautiful drawing by margaret.

that pseudo signature almost had me there!

Friday, 6 March 2009

... thank god for the straight line tool.

content page for folio. the idea was that you could perch the text on the rows of window sills but oh wait, some genius made the image waaaaay too dark for the text to show up.

*slow clap*

old skool life drawings, yo. now with 100% more hands

do over of the refugee illustration for folio although elen seemed to prefer the more emo-tastic version. i guess i wanted to try something a little more design based rather than literal... for which i totally blame the graphic genius of chris ware.

christ... those blank, soulless eyes are actually a little creepy.

my boss is so very awesome. he might have possibly got me a gig doing the poster for this event going on at warrick castle. it's either the celebrations of some big birthday of henry viii or the production the fencing academy's putting on for their bicentennial- i'm not sure...

anyhoo, they needed an idea of the color scheme so here's a rather gross thumbnail i sent them. for some reason they seemed to actually like it.

did you know in his younger days, Henry enjoyed playing a sport called REAL tennis? also, Edward wasn't his only son- he had another, illegitimate son called henry fitzroy. Henry made steps to name him heir but never went through with it. fitzroy's death by TB might have also had something to do with that.

super duper rough stuff for some freelance work.

hooray for stocky stick figures!

BWAH!? life drawings of a male life model?

insanity. utter insanity.

also, i decided to be all artsy and get myself a mole skin and ZOMG, do i love it so.

100th post.

character designs for the web comic do-hickey... and don't worry about the soul patch. turns out it's a keeper after all.

HOLD IT!

... something that doesn't leave you reaching for the nearest dashboard confessional album and black eye-liner? no way...

for an article on escapism into children's literature. unlike the other two, this doesn't suck a load of ass.

*GASP*  what!? moar throat slitting art?!? how utterly delightful!

but yeah, illustration for an article on refugees. this was going to be a whole lot more ambitious, shot at an angle with a tone of hands clutching at the fence but then 1. there's not a whole lotta space for the illustrations so the tiny reproduction would most likely be unreadable and 2. there was a little matter of meeting the deadline.

BLEGH!

on the topic of emo-tastic, here be the second folio cover. this term's theme is sanctuary...
...
...
rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiight. you were bang on the money with this one. totally should have gone with the holding house idea but nooooooooooooo, someone wanted to be all artistic and abstract.

... i'm guessing i can't really get away with blaming this debacle on listening to too much 'my body is a cadge' by the lovely arcade fire, right?

lol, so emo.

but yeah, kinda sorta preliminary work for a crappy little sculpture i made (watch this space) based around Orestes little run in with the furies. for more on that, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orestes_(mythology) or http://threepennyorchestra.blogspot.com/2009/02/oh-those-crazy-greeks.html and oh dear, i think i just fragged the text formatting on this post.

did you know that coffee is a wonderful artistic medium? it's true!

#THE MORE YOU KNOW!#

art jam leftovers- theme this time round was 'three panel comic'. rather than try and be all witty and cleaver about it, just churned out the most re-god-damn-diculouse thing i could think of; namely an unlikely duo saving the city from a 90ft barney with the power of ROCK.

in order to do something about all the black and white kicking around here latley, may i re-introduce you to the colour purple?
