sketchbook scraps!

not too long ago amanda palmer set up a kickstarter to fund her spanking new album. being a total sucker for both these things i prescribed to the philosophy of oh well, what the hell and threw a chunk of change at it.

asides from getting a ticket to the tour date in london, this also bagged you entry to a much smaller acoustic set a few days before. for some reason i thought this would be the PERFECT thing to bring my sketchbook to.

holy moly. despite having to run home and back halfway through to deal with the house alarm freaking out, this evening was SPEC-FUCKING-TACULAR.

here's jherek bischoff and his spontaneous string quartet for the night. they were performing instrumental versions of songs off his new record:

it was powerful.

check it out HERE

did have a go at doing some sketching during the main set but it was far too dark. it was also a gloriously theatrical affair involving fruit, megaphones and mass human drum machines that was pretty much impossible to tare your eyes from.

all in all, if one of your favourite musicians ever offers the chance to go to something like this, you really, really really, really, really, really must take them up on it.

here's something from the new album. stop motion kinetic typography? ohmyfuckyes.

aaaaaaaaaaand photos from the not so acoustic night:

so one of the things i'm working on at the moment is a project with one of the masters graphic design students from the old university. his fmp is all about teaching the youth of today with their iphones and ipods and other shiny things beginning with 'i' the joy of games that time forgot. one of the ways he's doing this is with a series of flip books illustrating three such games.

i guess this is where i come in, huh?

more on this at some future time.

speaking of animation, there are some freaking amazing animated projects looking for funding on that newfangled kick-starter thing. i am, for instance, way too excited about this (and may have thrown some change at it).

holy shit. when you see the footage and he's all like "oh yeah, i've done all this myself" it's like…. SAY WHAT???

… shit like this is such a kick up the ass.

more on that !!!!!HERE!!!!

work stuff!

so a while back i was asked if i wanted to do some storyboards/ concept art to go in the pitch packet for an independent short. here are (some of) the results.

you can find out more (and maybe even throw a dime towards their kickstarter-style fund raiser) here.

in other news, here's a cracking little essay about work ethic vs. inspiration. holy crap. you can say that again. it also features some wise word by a mr. jack white.

god damn. this man just elevated himself to hero status. i hear he writes some pretty fine tunes too?
